You know what a business logo is, but what about a business logo design package. Simple phrase with a simple meaning – it’s a design package containing all the logo elements you’ll need to give your business a more professional look. That’ll include the actual business logo concept plus other shape, size and color scheme variations adapted to fit specific parts of your overall branding strategy.
You’ve seen this stuff before! Notice how the business logos of top brands usually have ever so subtle variations as you go from their website to social media pages and ad landing pages. That’s what a business logo design package gives you.
Rather than one singular business logo which might not match the branding scheme of, say, a Facebook ad campaign you’re running, you get a logo package with modified logos all optimized for different segments of your branding campaign.
What’s included in a business logo design package
1. Actual logo variations
With a business logo package, you’re getting all possible variations of a logo design for every segment of your branding strategy. This will include;
Actual logo concepts can be tweaked to make them more suitable for different platforms and use context. Here’s an example of what I mean from popular freelance marketplace, Fiverr:
Notice how the Twitter version of the logo is a shortened version of the full text ‘Fiverr’ logo on the website? This shorter logo design fits better into the profile picture section of Twitter. Notice also that the modified logo design still retains the look and feel of the original logo with identical text elements and an almost identical color scheme.
Preserving the overall design scheme of a logo across variations is important for maintaining the brand ‘feel.’ This is something only skilled business logo creators can achieve.
2. Color variations
Color variations are much more common. If you’ve engaged in any branding campaign before, you’re probably familiar with how it works. I’ll use one of my favorite website design agencies Rno1.com to demonstrate.
Again the two platforms are web and twitter. The web version of the logo is monochrome, and that blends in nicely with the overall theme of the website. On twitter, you have a much more colorful logo design to match the white and blue twitter theme.
If you want to go technical, logo design packages should include the logo in at least four color schemes:
- Normal which is your logo in your preferred color scheme with and without a transparent background
- Monochrome which is usually a black logo on a white background
- Inverse which is a full-color logo with heightened contrast between dark and black backgrounds
- Monotone which limits the color scheme to just one color with varying shades
Note that with most logo design packages, you get multiple versions of the normal logo design in different color schemes.
3. Format variation
For most logo design packages, you’ll get the logo files in two file formats; PNG and JPEG.
JPEG is the more popular variant of the two. If you’re using your logo on web platforms, then it’s also the format you’ll prefer since it displays better.
Logos with transparent backgrounds come in PNG format. And generally speaking, PNG is better for performance (if you’re using it on a website) since it’s more lightweight.
Some business logo package providers also include source files in the package. Source files are usually vector files in the EPS, PDF, SVG or AI formats. With them, you can make small changes in the logo design later with editing apps.
4. Size variations
Digital platforms usually have specific size requirements for graphical content. On Twitter, the recommended logo size is 400px x 400px. On YouTube, that number is 800px x 800px Proper sizing guarantees full logo display when you upload to websites and other forms of digital media.
Sizing also matters when it comes to making prints. Unlike vector files which have no finite resolution and as such can be scaled infinitely, JPEGS and PNGs have finite resolutions determined by the image size. Scaling a JPEG/PNG image past a certain threshold (related to its size) will cause a drop in quality.
Business logo packages will include your logo files in a selection of popular custom sizes that should cover all your basic digital and print needs.
Traditional logo design versus logo design package
Why bother with a logo design package when you can easily go for a simple logo design service. Especially considering that the former is cheaper to purchase.
- Logo design packages create several variations of logos for all applicable parts of your business. If you’re serious about branding and uniformity, things all serious brands should take seriously (pun intended), a simple logo won’t cut it.
- A logo design package provides all the logo elements you need to command your digital and print media spaces. However subtle the changes across platforms are, they form part of the subtle positive brand signals that influence a consumer’s perspective of your brand.
- It’s all about brand identity! If you plan on creating a super impressionable brand, customizing your online pages with the logo elements from a logo design package is bare essentials.
Who needs a logo design package?
Anyone serious about branding and brand identity. You’ll know you’re set for a business logo design package if:
- You’re a small business trying to differentiate yourself from the competition. Part of standing out is creating a superb brand identity. And like I said, ensuring your logo is properly displayed and matched to the design schemes of relevant platforms is bare essentials for brand identity.
- You’re planning on extending your digital presence. You’ll need custom business logo designs to set up shop on the various digital platforms.
- You’re launching an ad campaign, in which case you need a properly sized and colour-matched logo for your channel-specific ad copies.
- You’re a business making your first foray into the digital space
- You plan on leveraging new-gen technologies and platforms like web 3.0 and NFTs.
- You want to execute a brand refresh to spice up your brand image
How much does a business logo design package cost?
The price for a business logo design package varies by project and the contracting designer. For a rough estimate, expect to pay:
- Between $100 – $500 for a typical business logo package from business logo design freelancers
- Between $1000 – $10,000 for a business logo design package with custom elements delivered by a world-class business logo designer
- Between $10,000 and $50,000 if you want a business logo package from some of the more premium log design agencies out there.
All things considered, you get better quality business logo design packages as you step up the pricing ladder. Remember that the quote also covers the logo concept design, not just the extra bits that come with a package.
With premium business log designers, you get consultations to define your brand vision and competitor reviews to identify what should stand out above the rest in the concept generation phase.
That’s compared to the not so premium services where the final logo is more of a product of the creator’s imagination than it is your brand identity and values.
Choosing a business logo designer
When it comes to hiring an actual business logo designer to create a business logo design package, you have two options which I already made reference to earlier.
- A freelancer on platforms like Fiverr
- Agency business logo designers
Provided you take the time out to screen and select truly skilled designers, there’s very little difference in terms of quality between the two options.
Agency business logo designers, however, come out to be pricier than freelance business logo designers. And this is more because of their concierge-like service delivery than it is the quality of the final logo design package.
But to be specific, this is what you get out of the two routes to hiring a business logo designer.
Freelance business logo designer
- Cheaper pricing due to fewer overhead costs
- A larger pool of business logo creators to make your pick from. This is important if you have very specific styling and design requirements. On a freelance platform like Upwork, there’s a literal horde of talent, so you’re more likely to find someone who can replicate the ideas you have.
- On the flipside, popular freelance sites have a low barrier to entry for creatives. Except you’re very stringent about screening potential hires, you might end up with a less than professional logo designer. I cover what to look out for when hiring a freelance logo designer in my guide to hiring a freelance logo designer.
Agency business logo designers
- An overall smoother experience in most cases. With premium business logo design agencies, you get the five-star treatment nine out of ten times.
- There’s also a guarantee of quality when you hire premium logo design agencies, and usually, it’s easier to find premium logo design agencies.
- The notable downside with logo design agencies is that you pay premium rates for their premium services. For what would be the same quality of a logo design package for a $10,000 per package freelancer, you might pay upwards of $15,000 for an agency specializing in business logo designs.
Getting the best hands to undertake your logo design package
Whether you choose to go the freelancer or agency route, here’s what you should look out for when hiring a business logo designer.
1. A portfolio that’s beyond impressive
Great looking logos are easy to tell apart from poorly made logos. Importantly you want to see if the logos in a portfolio match your preferred style. Hiring a business logo designer specializing in typography logos makes no sense when you want something more graphic based.
2. Flawlessly executed logo packages
You also want a business logo designer who has created logo packages with all the variations I talked about earlier. The variations should look as good as the original logo concept too.
3. Attention to detail
Gauge attention to detail by examining just how relatable a portfolio logo design package is to the overall image and brand identity of a brand. If you’re dealing with a fashion brand, for instance, do the visual elements and color scheme appear ‘fashionesque.’
Or if it’s a brand selling erotica, does the detailing of the logo and its associated variations conjure up any of that picturesque erotic feel.
4. The onboarding process
Good business logo designers will go the extra mile to understand your business to create a logo design package befitting what the brand stands for. Almost all they’ll do to understand your business plays out in the onboarding stage as you get to know the designer.
How fluid is the onboarding process? Do you have to wait hours on end for replies to your email? Are your questions being answered? Was there a consultation round, or is there a consultation booked in the future?
Ready to create your business logo design package?
You’re now armed with all it takes to hire a designer to create your business logo package. The actual business of hiring a stellar logo package designer is fairly straightforward, as you’ll know the right designer when you see them (and their works).
Like I said, logo package designers hang out on freelance websites or logo design agencies. If you’re set to hire one, now check out my guide to hiring a logo designer, where I’ve listed some recommended freelance logo designers.
